Jan 2022 - Present

Bank of the West - Head of Design / BMO  - Head of US Design

  • Led a diverse team consisting of Product Design, Content Design, Research, Branding & Web Design, and Design Ops across digital products, branding sites and initiatives. 

  • Restructured and instituted new processes and tools to increase effectiveness, quality of collaboration and solutions, drive more strategic impact, and grow trust with partners and within the team.

  • Teams delivered a major brand site redesign and re-platform, substantial research-driven improvements to new account opening, among others.

  • Cultivated practice leadership and quality, established rubrics and career progression clarity, up-leveled design management and coaching. 

  • Led team smoothly through acquisition turbulence, continuing to deliver projects with high impact and without turnover. 

  • Post-acquisition brought new practices to the wider BMO Canadian and US Design org, improving processes, crafting and delivering rubrics, establishing design scrum, and advocating for Content Design practice elevation.

  • Built partnerships, improved roadmaps and strategic prioritization, as well as methods for continuous improvement with the US businesses.

2017 - Jan 2022

Stitch Fix  - Director of Design

  • Led design teams across all internal tools, including AI supported stylist interface, merchandising systems, warehouse fulfillment tools and reporting, and customer service systems.

  • Recruited and hired to grow the team 5x. Revamped the interviewing process & materials to reduce subjectivity and increase diversity. Mentored and coached staff, including managing managers, developed structure and processes increasing design’s visibility and strategic contribution.

  • Responsible for innovating the core business and stylist interactions, directed new feature development through experimentation that drove 10% increase in customer happiness and 7% increase in revenue. 

  • Partnered with directors and executives across the org–including engineering, data science, and business intelligence–aligning on best strategic opportunities for design impact. 

  • Implemented new design sprint process that increased transparency and on-time delivery, restructured design critiques to be more inclusive and efficient.

  • Led the creation of design principles and a design system for internal tooling.

  • All while investing in both in-person and remote culture (ask me about Tea Times, Question of the Day, pairing facilitation, and retros) and driving the highest team engagement scores within all of Design.

2016 - 2017

Faraday Future - Product Owner, In-Car Experiences

  • Led product development for a subset of in-car software and hardware experiences for a next-generation, partially autonomous electric vehicle.

  • Worked across disciplines with a team of UX/UI designers, software developers, hardware designers collaborating with engineers, branding, strategy, and executive teams to realize a vision of a highly advanced, connected and predictive car interior.

  • Collaboratively crafted product requirements to meet business and brand objectives

  • Conducted generative and evaluative research of an interactive heads-up display and steering wheel controls, inventing a new method for mocking up and testing the in-car experience

  • Oversaw design and development while improving overall department process

  • Managed partner relationships and integration

  • Wrote and produced marketing experiences for feature demonstrations at CES.

2010 - 2016

Belkin Wemo  - Product Experience Manager / Principal UX Designer

  • Responsible for leading and managing the Wemo creative product design team including UX, UI, and Industrial Design.

  • Worked closely with the Product Management, Marketing, and Engineering teams to drive product strategy, design principles, and execution plans, as well as continuously elevating product experience, marketability, and success.

  • Oversaw the design and development process, from initial research through production, ensuring that Wemo products are recognized for quality and innovation.

  • Developed, supported, and managed the people and resources of the creative team to support business growth.

  • Designed product eco-systems of hardware, software, and ongoing service – includes install guides, human factors, customer support.

  • Worked on energy conservation systems incorporating psychological principles of behavior change, with deliverables presented to the DOE.

  • Designed and iterated Wemo product and app – a pioneering and award-winning Internet of Things product ecosystem.

  • Built relationships with product management to influence roadmap and product strategy.

  • Led team in instituting quality standards for software design and implementation, with heavy emphasis on prototyping, testing, and close collaboration with software engineers.

2006 - 2010

Yahoo! Inc. - Senior UX Designer

  • Designed best-of-the-web entertainment experiences for Yahoo including an information and content platform for award shows, which increased page-views per user by 215% (from 20 to 45) for Oscars over the previous year, with 430M PVs on peak day.

  • Led a global design effort for an international entertainment product adaptable to different global audiences and editorial teams including flexible site framework and editorial tools.
